Hi, I’m Dr. Akosoa McFadgion!

I also go by Dr. A. I am a Relationship Therapist, and I specialize in couples and family counseling.

I believe my purpose is to help families, couples, and individuals engage in healthy relationships with themselves and others. I support families and couples challenged by domestic violence, abuse, and trauma. My approach to relationship therapy is eclectic and intersectional. I provide a space for couples to express their viewpoints about their relationship without judgment or penalty. I help couples and families dismantle unhealthy expectations and collectively create a relationship framework that works for them.

I provide couples and family therapy from a culturally-centered approach that encompasses evidence-based approaches, Spiritual Guidance and Cultural-Humility. What does that mean? I assign homework! Going out on dates, creating time to communicate collectively, and my signature strategy- family meetings with a twist. My goal is to empower my couples and families with the tools to manage their emotions, improve communication, and build resilient and healthy relationships with one another.

I am a Research Psychologist, Clinical Social Worker, and Professor. I have over 30 years of experience, conducting research on quality early childhood education, the intersection of HIV, Substance Abuse, and Domestic violence, and the prevalence of traumatic brain injuries among survivors of intimate partner violence. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Austin Peay State University. I have a Master of Science in Research Psychology (University of Tennessee at Chattanooga) and a Master of Social Work (Howard University), and I earned my PhD in Social Work from Howard University with an emphasis on Intimate Partner Violence and Traumatic Brain Injuries.
